FIRE HAZARD
Forests of the Forest District Gubin are classified as belonging to the Ihighest (the most dangerous) category of fire hazard. The factors increasing the risk of fires in the forests of the Forest District include:
● network of national, regional, district and local roads, as well as the railroad,
● heavy traffic towards the border (border crossings in Gubin and Gubinek),
● touristic popularity of the areas of the Gubin Forest District,
● climatic conditions (low precipitation rates).
Due to the fire hazard, the Gubin Forest District has a fire protection system. Its elements include:
● 4 forest fire lookouts (Wałowice, Dzikowo, Luboszyce, Strzegów) and one mast with a CCTV camera. The lookouts aim at early detection of forest fires.
● adequate density of water draw points - in total 20 objects on natural and artificial reservoirs
● a recognition and firefighting Land_Rover car and 2 water-carts.
● 2 bases with firefighting equipment
● radio and mobile communication system
● ground patrols
● airplane landing strip.
Within the period of 1997-2013, 299 fires were recorded in the area of the Gubin Forest District
